Affinities
Affinities
The Affinities project provides a starting point for many other projects. The layout is built from straight lines and angles, putting the emphasis on the distribution of colours. If we apply affinity (as derived from the source image and palette), we can see patterns appear; the simple grids turn into maps or organic matter. Once the affinity is removed, and colours are applied solely based on presence in the original palette, the patterns dissapear and we see a random fog of colours. When we switch to a lower resolution, it's surprising to see that often the art becomes more interesting, more engaging, as more is left up to the viewer's interpretation. In all cases, the art incorporates a level of recursion as well as animation, as the colours fluctuate (to see the animation, click on the image to open the source SVG).
